Beret Central in Canopy Hotel

To beret or not beret.

If you follow along on Instagram, you might have caught the great beret debate with my friend Abby. She and I might disagree on wearing techniques, but we agree that they elevate any outfit. We both wear them with dressy or more casual outfits this time of year. Added bonus is that if you get them in the right material, they are actually quite warm for chilly winter days.

To capture our beret fueled OOTD, we shot in the newly opened Canopy Hotel downtown Grand Rapids. It might be my new favorite place in town. They have local goodness scattered throughout, mixed with the standard of greatness you would expect from a Hilton property. Most importantly, the light that pours in to their restaurant space (hopefully opening later in the year) makes the perfect backdrop for photos. PS-Also, the view from their rooftop bar Knoop is fab.

I have talked about my “stuck standard work outfit” before. While this isn’t a perfect science or something that I stick to, on the days when I am not feeling as inspired, it’s my outfit saving grace: black pants, white button up, blazer. To have this in my back pocket takes pressure off if I’m running behind or just need the utility of a work-meeting worthy outfit.

What’s your go-to for these kind of days?
