1952 Wasn't That Long Ago

Vote. K?

Love seeing all of the vote shirts floating around. I picked this one up at Madewell. A graphic tee and a simple skirt is always a winning combo in my book. And, if you have been here for awhile you know these sneakers have my whole heart.

While this election season has been anything but inspiring, I do find the ability to vote deeply meaningful. The chance for us as citizens to have such a direct say in our nation’s story is a right that many don’t have. Whenever I’m headed to the voting booth, I think about the people who paved the way for me to be able to drive up, walk in, and take my place. It’s humbling.

The history of voting in this country is checkered at best. Women were granted the right to vote in 1920 with the historical 19th Amendment. What’s wild? Due to being denied citizenship, Asian American women weren’t allowed to vote until 1952. Friends, that isn’t that long ago. To me, it’s just further motivation to participate in the process of democracy.

Again, I know this election season has been frustrating and divisive. But, when November 3 rolls around, remember that the very opportunity to vote is a something that was dreamed about and fought for.

For us. Go vote.

Sincerely,
Ashley
